The British South Asian brand sets their sights on going international as one half of Amki (Amani), packs her suitcases and travels to the land of maple syrup, stunning landscapes and certified lover boy Drake! Have you guessed where yet? That’s right, it’s CANADA!
Amki is now available in Toronto, allowing their Canadian clientele the chance to view all collections in person at their downtown studio, situated near the Waterfront communities and Fashion district.
Don’t worry though, the other half of Amki (Kiren), still holds one foot firmly in the U.K where she will be continuing with exhibitions and popups across the country. Even though the sisters are on different continents, Amki has expanded it’s horizons and looks forward to launching their traditional-meets-modern collections and venturing into new waters, expanding the brand and its identity.
Inspiration
Amki’s recent lehenga collections have taken inspiration from romantic bohemian vibes and detailing of mid-century armour, symbolising strength and empowerment. The creativeness for their collection focuses on designs that represent the modern woman, who sets her own trends, instead of following them.
The brand promotes the concept of slow fashion by manufacturing garments on a made-to-order basis. This allows them to cut down on any wastage, allowing their customers access to made to measure fashion, for that perfect fit every time. Amki believe in giving their customers an experience of luxury, by producing the finest hand made embellishments, stitched together one bead at a time by their talented artisans in India.
Why Toronto?
The move to Canada has always been an ambition for Amani from a young age. During the pandemic was the least likely time she thought she’d make the move, but after many years of planning, nothing was going to stop this journey and the goal of taking the brand global :
“Canada has always felt like a second home for me from a young age. I have some very fond memories from my visits here as a child, right through to my teenage and adult years. Even through a pandemic, the timing of the move and expansion of the brand just felt right.” – Amani
